SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Humane Society said it’s experiencing a ‘puppy explosion’ as overcrowded shelters are now seeing puppies come in in record numbers.
“We’ve never seen this many puppies in our care and so we are calling it a puppy explosion,” said Nina Thompson, Director of Public Relations at the San Diego Humane Society. “We started seeing an increase in puppies in May of this year, and in August it absolutely peaked to more than 180 puppies on average a day.”
Thompson said breeds you normally wouldn’t associate with shelters are coming through their doors.
