Sturgis Rally statistics reveal steady number of crimes compared to last year [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Law enforcement is giving us an update each day during rally week.

On Monday, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Meade County Sheriff and Sturgis Police were there to go over some of the crime statistics after the first weekend.

They all agreed it has been steady so far and there have been no major incidents to report, similar to last year around this time.

The Highway Patrol listed 50 DUI arrests in Sturgis and the Rapid City District from Saturday through Monday morning.

As far as accidents, they’re counting 47 so far, and 26 of those resulted in injuries.

As far as fatal accidents, none have been reported since the official start of the rally.

Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater says rally-goers should continue to utilize the pedicabs to avoid putting themselves or others in danger.
