JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jaylen Burns, the Jackson State University student killed nearly a year ago, is remembered for his community service, during World Homeless Day.
While his life is celebrated, his mother grieves and continues the pursuit for justice in the unsolved murder case.
“Last year, Jaylen and the brothers of Delta Phi were here,” said Latrice Wright, the mother of Jaylen Burns.
The Stewpot Opportunity Center remembered the life and community works of the slain JSU senior with a portrait on the building that serves the homeless.
One of the Chicago-native’s last community service acts was cleaning and doing work at the Opportunity Center with his brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
“I flew in just for this because where my son is, I am,” said Wright.
Burns’ mother is touched to have her son’s image welcoming the community he uplifted.
