State of emergency declared in St. Louis County due to flooding [Video]

The declaration allows the county’s emergency management agency request state and federal resources.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — St. Louis County was placed under a state of emergency following flooding earlier this week.

County Executive Sam Page signed the emergency declaration Thursday after flooding damaged homes and infrastructure and led to multiple deaths. In a press release, Page said he signed the declarations at the request of the county’s Office of Emergency Management Director Michele Ryan.

“The declaration allows Ryan to request state and federal resources to assist in the response to storms that hit the region on Tuesday,” the press release said.

The flooding has continued in other parts of St. Louis County. Meramec River is expected to crest at major flood levels Friday. MoDOT closed 141 under Interstate 44 Thursday morning due to flooding.
