State lawmaker files recall election legislation after Dr. Marie Feagins ouster [Video]

As the community grapples with the sudden removal of its superintendent, questions loom about whether the state could intervene in the district’s management and if newly proposed legislation might lead to the recall of elected officials.

MSCS board member Michelle McKissack said she believes the state can’t turn a blind eye after watching the chaos unfold within the district. She said based on her from State Representative Mark White, the state plans to respond sooner than later.

According to McKissack, the district receives $900 million of state funding. She believes the money the district spends could soon be overseen by the state.
