The Stark County Sheriff’s Office says it will not call residents to ‘request funds, vouchers, or payments for Sheriff’s services.’

CLEVELAND — Authorities in Stark County are urging residents to be wary of alleged scammers calling them on the phone and claiming to be a member of the sheriff’s office.

According to a press release, Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier said the scammers falsely claim the call recipient has a warrant out for their arrest and try to extort the victims into paying a fee to get them out of trouble.

The sheriff’s office said it does not “call and request funds, vouchers, or payments for Sheriff’s services.”   

“Stark County residents should be aware of these types of scams and are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to your local police department and/or the Stark County Sheriff’s Office,” the release states.
