A TOWER block in London erupted into flames and plumes of black smoke filled the air, as horrified locals reported a “huge explosion”.
The terrifying inferno was sparked at around 12.30pm in Staines-upon-Thames and residents were warned to stay indoors.
Emergency services were called to the chaotic scene, in Tothill Car Park, on Elmsleigh Road, and scrambles to battle the flames.
Fire crews arrived at 12.35pm and there were eight pumps working to bring the fire under control.
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the blaze has now been extinguished.
Aerial photographs show fire damage on the roof after flames ripped through the building for nearly two hours.
It appeared the block of flats was undergoing refurbishment at the time of the blaze with scaffolding on seven floors.
