ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are reporting social media messages containing potential threats aimed at students in the parish have surfaced.

Sheriff James Pohlmann reported the messages are being circulated by the students. While the messages reference school violence, they do not identify specific schools or communities.

Additionally, the investigation revealed the messages were being shared across multiple school districts both in and out of Louisiana.

Pohlmann says he is ensuring the safety of the schools, students, staff and community. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased security presence on campuses across the parish.

The investigation into the messages remains ongoing.

Anyone with information on the incident can call the sheriff’s office at 504-271-2501.
