SSE and TotalEnergies commit to EV charging joint venture in Ireland and UK [Video]

SSE and French group TotalEnergies have committed to a joint venture to establish a new electric vehicle charging infrastructure company for the UK and Ireland.

Under the brand name Source, the company will deploy up to 3,000 high-power charge points of 150 kW or more in both countries over the next five years to meet demand as electric vehicles’ share of the car market continues to grow.

Source will target a 20% market share with its 300 ‘EV hubs’, which will be established in “prime location in and around urban areas” and use renewable energy from SSE and TotalEnergies.

Several hubs are under construction with plans for more currently in development.

The companies said Source would help to accelerate action to meet the government’s target of having 1m EVs on the road by 2030 and build consumer confidence in EV charging.
