Springfield Thunderbirds kick off Rock 102’s Mayflower Marathon [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – On Friday, the Thunderbirds hosted their Mayflower Marathon kickoff celebration. In the spirit of giving, the MassMutual Center has been a canned good donation site this month.

For the rest of this month, fans are encouraged to bring canned goods and other nonperishable items to the MassMutual Center box office lobby for the Rock 102 Mayflower Marathon.

Friday night, the Springfield Thunderbirds hosted the Charlotte Checkers at the MassMutual Center. An extra special game for the community.

“It’s a chance for our fans to really show their support for those who are battling food insecurity in the area,” Thunderbirds community relations manager Ryan Smith told us.

Fans were encouraged to bring canned good items to contribute to the Mayflower Marathon.

Smith says this game highlights a small portion of a much larger issue.
