Springfield PD addresses social media rumors about migrants [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Springfield Police Department is trying to get ahead of social media rumors about migrants.

Rumors have spread in Springfield, like elsewhere, about gang activity and potential threats involving Venezuelan migrants.

“We are aware of recent social media rumors circulating concerning potential threats involving Venezuelan gangs,” the department wrote.

“The Springfield Police Department did not generate this information and has no evidence to support claims of gang-related activity involving Venezuelan migrants.”

A statement says, “Springfield Police urge their community to rely on verified information directly from the department for updates on safety and security concerns.”
