Spivey declared winner in District 13 race for Nebraska Legislature [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Nearly two weeks after Election Day, there is finally an official winner for District 13’s seat in the Nebraska state unicameral.

Democrat Ashlei Spivey beat independent candidate Nick Batter by about 150 votes once the counting was complete.

“It is an honor to be selected by the voters of District 13 to represent our interests in Lincoln,” Spivey said in a press release Monday. “I look forward to passing policy that puts resources and investment back into our community and across the state, truly helping people have access and opportunity to the good life Nebraska has to offer. It’s time to get to work!”

Spivey, the founder of nonprofit “I Be Black Girl,” will represent the district that covers much of North Omaha as she steps in to replace Sen. Justin Wayne, whose term limit ran up in this election.
