Michelle Richard is the Student Success Coordinator at the Curtin Kalgoorlie Campus. One of the highlights of her professional achievements is the Cultural Awareness ROCKS! event. Michelle identified a significant gap in the knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures among international mining students. To address this, she collaborated with academics from the Faculty of Science & Engineering (WA School of Mines), industry professionals and local Indigenous communities, and it was through this collaboration that the program was born.

Cultural Awareness ROCKS! is a unique initiative that enriches the educational experience of international mining students while promoting cultural awareness and reconciliation. It offers local communities the chance to share their history, voices, and perspectives and aims to inspire collaboration. Michelle created a comprehensive and impactful event that not only educated students, but also fostered a spirit of reconciliation and mutual respect.
