WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – November may be well known for the start of the holiday season, but it also brings awareness to something bigger — homelessness.
An event at the Community Partners Campus in Wausau is giving people a chance to learn and share their stories.
High inflation, the after-effects of COVID, and the toll on mental health were just some of the things brought up when talking about the rise of the homeless population.
While you may think of homelessness in the here and now, it’s actually been happening for far too long in the central Wisconsin area.
“The number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness is the highest we’ve seen since 2012 and the number of people experiencing chronic homelessness is the highest we’ve seen since 2010,” Mike Basford from the WI Interagency Council on Homelessness, said.
