Spartanburg County plans to apply for state aid to help family homes affected by Helene [Video]

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Spartanburg County Council plans to apply for state aid to help families whose homes were damaged during Helene.

The community development department asked county council for permission to apply for money from the South Carolina Housing Trust Fund for the disaster program. Officials said they hope to especially help homeowners in Spartanburg County who are at 80 percent or below the median area income level.

County Development Director Kathy Rivers said many of these families may not have insurance that covers their damages or they do have insurance but their claims were denied. Council approved the move unanimously.

“I’m very very happy very very happy,” said Rivers. “Let’s just hope that we will be funded and we will be able to assist approximately 60 families throughout the county, so we’re very excited about that.”
