Southern Indiana cake shop set to reopen after fire destroys building | News from WDRB [Video]

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) — Nearly 6 months after a fire tore through a cake shop and apartment building, the shop is reopening a mile down the road.

Cake Ladies Dream Shoppe has been open in New Albany for 54 years, serving the community with candy and cake decorating items.

The fire started in the upstairs apartments, injuring one person. The shop below suffered water and smoke damage.

After discovering the building would have to be demolished, the owners weren’t sure if they were going to reopen anywhere else.

They said the community support they received was what made them decide to start over.

“Oh, it’s just incredible and many of the local businesses have reached out, offered support, asked what they could do to help,” Donna Damron, one of the owners said. “It has just been amazing. Without the support of our local businesses we wouldn’t be here today. That’s true.”
