TOMS RIVER, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey woman, accused of stealing $175,000 from the senior living community where she worked, could be in even bigger trouble now. Authorities say, in order to delay her court appearances on the theft charges, she lied about her son receiving cancer treatments out of state.
As lifestyle director at the Greenbriar Oceanaire Community & Golf Course in Waretown, 37-year-old Alicia Campbell was responsible for booking entertainment, planning events and purchasing items for the senior living community there. Instead, authorities say, from 2019 to 2022, she spent at least $80,000 on personal items for herself and used Venmo to transfer nearly $100,000 to herself.
While awaiting trial on theft and forgery charges, she notified the court that her son was receiving leukemia treatment in Philadelphia and that he needed to be transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital. She was granted delays multiple times before investigators say they noticed the …
