Bethany Presbyterian has to rebuild its fire-damaged church and says they’re taking the opportunity to provide affordable housing.
SPOKANE, Wash. — A South Hill church is ready to come home, but when they reopen the doors it won’t just be to the congregation.
To see it today, weeds and dust are the only things singing praise at Bethany Presbyterian. Two years closed, its earthly belongings stored away in shipping containers parked outside. Everything else that belongs inside, like Sharon Smith, is locked out.
Though Smith and other members of the church ReBuilding Team are dreamers.
“Building here, building here,” Smith said, pointing to corners of the church lot. “Parking lot, there will be a playground type thing over here for the kids.”
She doesn’t see parking lot pavement. She knows what it could be.
