The Florence community mourned the loss of Officer Mark S. Reynolds, the first transport police officer to die in the line of duty.
FLORENCE, S.C. — Family, friends and fellow officers gathered in Florence on Sunday to say goodbye to one of their own.
South Carolina State Transport Police Officer Mark S. Reynolds was laid to rest at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery. Reynolds died on Sept. 4 after a medical emergency that occurred during training earlier in the day. Since then, the community has shown an outpouring of support, honoring Reynolds’s service and the work of law enforcement around the state.
“Reynolds dedicated much of his life to serving his community,” the South Carolina Department of Public Safety said after Sunday’s services.
Officials said joined the state transport police in 2022 but was a firefighter for more than a decade before that, officials said.
