Soaking rain through Wednesday in North Carolina, mountain snow [Video]

The WXII 12 First Warning Weather Team is tracking our heavy rain potential through Wednesday afternoon. Localized ponding and flash flooding may create some travel trouble spots this week.WEATHER SET-UPMoisture and energy are flowing out of the Gulf of Mexico ahead of a slow-moving cold front that is moving into the western mountains. This will bring widespread moderate rain into the Carolinas through early afternoon Wednesday.RAIN TOTALS:Most communities are expected to receive between one and two inches of rain Tuesday and Wednesday, but three-inch totals will be possible in areas where more intense rainfall is observed. To give that some perspective, Piedmont Triad International Airport received just 3.08 inches of rain between Oct. 1 and Dec. 8. During that dry period, drought levels have steadily increased.
