Smaller houses, more semi-detached homes considered for Mississauga [Video]

The public can have their say on plans to increase housing with smaller homes and more semi-detached homes in Mississauga.

The City of Mississauga continues to review ways to increase housing in the city. In 2023, city bylaws changed to allow additional residential units through garden suites, garage conversions and laneway suites and fourplexes.

Now the city is considering updating neighbourhood zoning to allow more semi-detached and smaller detached homes, according to a press release from the city.

Allowing more home types could bring more housing to areas of the city which lack open parcels of developable land, the city said.

The city is considering allowing more semi-detached homes in residential areas that currently allow only detached homes.

There is also a move to update lot requirements to allow for smaller-sized detached homes.

And the city is considering simplifying single-detached neighbourhood zones in zoning bylaws.
