Sioux City police tell residents to stay out of floodwaters [Video]

SIOUX CITY — Authorities are urging Siouxlanders to stay out of flooded streets and away from swollen rivers.

At 5:31 p.m. Sunday, a woman fell into the Big Sioux River in the area of River Drive and Military Road and was pulled from the water by residents.

“The female refused medical and walked away refusing to get help or answer any questions,” Sioux City Community Policing Sgt. Tom Gill said. “She wouldn’t give her name or any information.”

Gill said officers are working overtime in the Riverside neighborhood in effort to prevent people from accessing flooded homes. He said Sioux City Fire Rescue is there trying to keep people out, as well.

Gill said residents and onlookers can help city workers and volunteers by “giving them some room to work.”

“Hopefully this mess will be cleaned up soon. It could be a long summer,” he said.
