Sioux City NAACP denounces racial slurs found in wet cement [Video]

SIOUX CITY — The Sioux City branch of the NAACP over the weekend issued a statement denouncing racist graffiti that was scrawled in wet cement on a Riverside street. 

“This incident is a painful reminder of the work that remains to eliminate hate and discrimination in our city,” the statement, signed by Ike Rayford, president of the Sioux City chapter, said. “We stand with our community in calling for swift action to address this disturbing event.” 

Racial slurs, along with “Trump 2024,” were discovered this past week in a patch of recently poured concrete on Florence Avenue, immediately adjacent to Goldie Beck Park in Riverside. It is not known when the vandalism was done. 

Once it was discovered, the city quickly made plans to fix the street.
