Sign depicting Nevada assembly candidate in hijab draws criticism [Video]

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A political billboard depicting a Muslim candidate running for the Nevada legislature in a hijab is drawing criticism.

 Hanadi Nadeem is a Democratic candidate for Assembly District 34. A sign located near Durango Drive and Washington Avenue linked to a website and stated she “supports terrorist sympathizers.”

Her Republican candidate Brandon Davis defended the billboards.

 “We have to condemn it at any level. This is very, very dangerous to our community,” Nadeem said.

 Both are running for a seat covering parts of Summerlin. It was once held by Shannon Bilray-Axelrod who declined to run for re-election and instead pursued a seat on the Clark County Commission.

 Nadeem is from Pakistan and said she’s passionate about improving healthcare access.

 “Most of my friends, they’re physicians. Their husbands are physicians, so we know exactly what’s happening and I want to work on it,” Nadeem said. “I want to help my fellow Nevadans.”
