GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – If a cell phone is on your child’s wish list, there are some things to think about and prepare for before taking that step — especially if it’s a younger child begging you for a cell phone because all of their friends have one.
Experts say it’s important to know your child, set boundaries, and keep the lines of communication open (and we mean face-to-face), including talking to your child about what is safe and not safe to do on a cell phone with internet access.
A cell phone can be a great resource. Experts just want parents to be aware and set parental controls on the child’s phone.
There are also developmental concerns to keep in mind.
Some pediatricians say there’s a lot of literature and research to show smart devices for kids can really take away from their time they should be spending with other people and socially developing.
