Shelton State cosmetology students offering free hair, nail services for school-age kids in Tuscaloosa are [Video]

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – With students in the Tuscaloosa area set to return to class over the next two days, cosmetology students at Shelton State Community College are pitching in and offering their services to make sure kids look their best on day one.

This is the first year Shelton State has offered free haircuts and hairstyles to kids before school starts and organizers are overwhelmed with the positive response this generated.

“Before school starts, everybody wants to look pretty and look their best,” said Latoya Simmons, Division Chair for Salon and Spa Management at Shelton State Community College. “So, being able to provide hairstyles and haircuts is going to boost that confidence, boost that self-esteem.”

The two-day event started Monday and ends Tuesday.

Kids are getting their hair and nails done for free. These services are available to school age children in grades K through 12.
