SEPTA promotes sustainable development at Jefferson Station [Video]

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Commuters passing through SEPTA’s Jefferson Station can now get a look at an art project designed to promote the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Since 2019, the nonprofit Global Philadelphia Association has sponsored a citywide public art campaign with murals depicting the work necessary to reach the UN’s goals in areas including zero hunger, clean water and responsible consumption.

SEPTA on Wednesday unveiled an exhibit at Jefferson Station that highlights GPA’s art project. “We’re really hopeful that by folks coming through this railroad station — Jefferson Station — and looking at this expo, they’re going to learn more and think more about how their city plays into the sustainable development goals,” GPA President Zabeth Teelucksingh told KYW Newsradio.

SEPTA joined the effort, its leaders say, because the transit agency’s sustainability goals align with those of the UN. The transit agency has a series of environmental goals, including having a zero-emission bus fleet by 2040.
