Sensitive Staten Island hospital patient records impacted by cyberattack: What to know [Video]

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The sensitive information of patients at Staten Island University Hospital was “impacted” during a cyberattack on Medibase, a health care solution provider working with the hospital.

Private data potentially accessed includes the full name of patients, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, admit and discharge dates, outstanding balance amounts, and insurance information.

A spokeswoman for SIUH provided the following statement on the incident:

“Medibase Group, Inc. provides software solutions, technical assistance, and business office solutions to hospitals, health systems, and integrated delivery networks across the country, including Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH). On July 5, Medibase issued notices regarding a cybersecurity incident that the company recently experienced on its systems. While the records of some SIUH patients were impacted by the Medibase cybersecurity incident, none of SIUH’s systems were impacted.
