Secret Service does not plan to change RNC security plans after assassination attempt on Trump [Video]

PHOENIX (AZFamily) —Despite the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania Saturday, the Secret Service does not plan on changing its security plans for the 2024 Republican National Convention.

The four-day event kicks off Monday, and Trump is expected to attend.

“We are fully prepared and have a comprehensive security plan in place, and we’re ready to go,” said Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, the Secret Service Coordinator for the RNC, during a press conference Sunday. “The event has been designated as a national special security event, which is the highest level of security for an event that can be designated by the government.”

Gibson-Cicchino said 18 months of planning has gone into the security protocols for the RNC.

Local retired FBI Supervisor Special Agent Lance Leising said he’s worked at the RNC and DNC before and that security requires local, state, and federal agencies.
