Seasons first snow falls across Chicago; What to expect [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – We’re experiencing the first snowfall of the season, with the National Weather Service (NWS) projecting multiple inches to come down.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in place until 1 p.m. for most area counties, including McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Cook and Will Counties. The advisory is in effect until 1 p.m.

With wind gusts reaching 45 mph, the wind-whipped snow began falling in the northern suburbs during the 8 a.m. hour. The NWS forecasts 2 to 4 inches.

The snow will be of the slushy variety, accumulating on all surfaces, the highest amounts will be on grassy and elevated surfaces.

The NWS cautions drivers of sharply reduced visibility and slippery road conditions.

At times this morning, the snow could come down at a rate of almost an inch per hour.

As the system moves south-southeast, the NWS predicts it will reach Chicago between 9 – 10 a.m.
