The Virginia Beach Police Department announced Sunday afternoon that rough seas have led to their decision to halt the search of two missing male swimmers.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach Police Department halted its search of two males who went missing Saturday night, according to a Sunday afternoon press release.
At 8:24 p.m. Saturday, the city’s Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received several calls about three males who had been swimming in the ocean off 16th Street but were struggling to make it back to shore.
First responders arrived, they found one individual had washed ashore. They immediately began life-saving measures before eventually transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he is in critical condition.
Police said in a press release at 10:23 a.m. that their search should be “considered a recovery as opposed to a rescue.”
