Schools warn parents about spread of whooping cough in the district, state [Video]

Boise School District has recently had multiple cases of whooping cough confirmed. An email was sent to BSD parents warning them about the illness on the rise.

BOISE, Idaho — A concerning health alert from Boise School District was sent to parents regarding cases of whooping cough, also known as pertussis.

BSD sent an email Wednesday, Dec. 18 urging parents to take precautions to protect students and the community.

In the email to parents, district officials outlined symptoms of the illness and emphasized the importance of early treatment and prevention to limit its spread.

One BSD parent, Michael Gann, told KTVB Sunday he was unhappy with the email. “I feel like it was kind of like a cover your butt thing at the last minute by them,” Gann said.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory infection that starts with cold-like symptoms but can progress to worse conditions, including severe coughing fits, and in some cases can lead to death.
