School districts developing AI policies as the new year gets underway [Video]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – As school districts head back for a new year, many have developed policies on how to deal with artificial intelligence.

Right now, districts are in a place where how AI is used makes all the difference. For example, using it as a tool versus having it generate an entire essay. The different uses are reflected in some districts’ policies.

Back in January, the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) released a guidebook on artificial intelligence, which that included a set of recommendations. Beyond that, the districts were encouraged to set up their own.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools does not allow ChatGPT or any other AI programs on any school devices. Iredell-Statesville Schools allows some use among teachers, but not students.
