COLUMBIA — A manufacturer of industrial circuit breakers is seeking approval to use a Chapter 100 bond to expand its operations in Columbia, which would bring 241 jobs to the city.
The jobs at Schneider Electric all pay $24.41 hourly and only require a high school diploma.
“Schneider has been a long-time significant employer and a good corporate citizen of Boone County for nearly 50 years,” said Matt Williams, a board member of Regional Economic Development Inc. (REDI). “We’re excited about the opportunity for 240 new jobs in our community.”
Chapter 100 bonds are designed to encourage businesses to expand in certain cities by giving them property and sales tax exemptions. If Schneider Electric is able to get approval for the bond, it will spend more than $73 million to expand its current Columbia facility and build a new facility.
