LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – After about two years of development, Southeast Community College opened it’s new Sandhills Global Technology Center at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday.
Located on the Lincoln campus east of 84th and O streets, the 65,000-square-foot facility is the latest addition to SCC’s efforts to lead in workforce training and development.
Dr. Paul Illich, SCC’s president, said the building was developed with input from industry partners, faculty and students. The goal is to house and expand existing programs in biotechnology, design and drafting, electronic systems and computer information technology.
He said there’s about 700 students currently enrolled in those programs, the majority of which are in computer information technology.
“We have a gap in information technology and a gap in biotechnology and other technology related disciplines,” Illich said. “But we believe this new facility will be one of the most advanced technological training centers in the nation and we think this is going to be a wonderful …
