Scammers use AI to clone voices [Video]

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Scammers are using artificial intelligence to clone people’s voices.

I uploaded multiple audio tracks of me talking to an AI generator website to see how easy it is to clone someone’s voice.

I typed a short paragraph saying, “It’s Cayla. I am on vacation and left my wallet at home. I am in desperate need of cash. Please send me $500 immediately. I do not have money for food or a hotel. Can you help me?”

The text was then converted into my voice.

“That’s freaky, because the beginning portion of it definitely sounds like you,” Ethan Suggs, a second-year landscape architecture major at the University of Arkansas, said when he listened to the AI recording.

“Your personality is not present, but if it were cut shorter, I could see. And if the wording was different, I could definitely be fooled 100%,” …
