Scam Alert, Daphne Police Warn of Voice Cloning [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Robo calls aren’t just impersonating the president or other well-known public figures, scammers are now mimicking anyone’s voice in hopes of getting their next victim.

In March this year, the Federal Trade Commission issued a dire warning that alerted people to the possibility of being targeted by scammers in AI-powered schemes that use artificial intelligence to clone the voice of a family member.

It’s being done all too easy. Scammers, with the help of AI, are manipulating videos and recordings found on social media to produce realistic sounding voice recordings or even videos.

On top of that, Daphne Police are warning that scammers are also pulling audio from your voicemail greeting to impersonate you. It’s all to make the scam more believable.
