COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -The Saving Places Conference is coming to Colorado Springs for the first time this January. The event brings together experts and locals to learn how to protect historic landmarks and keep their stories alive. Workshops, tours, and sessions will show how to save sites and make them meaningful for today’s communities.
“There’s a lot more to preservation than just keeping a building frozen in time. That’s really not what we’re about. It’s about changing places—making sure there’s an example of a place but not just saving every building because it’s old,” said Colorado Preservation, Inc executive director Jennifer Orrigo Charles.
This year’s event highlights Colorado’s history, featuring places like the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, located in the 1903 El Paso County Courthouse. The building was saved from demolition by the community in the 1970s. The conference runs from Jan. 29 to Feb. 1 at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort.
