San Marcos community fights for coffee shop to keep live music venue KTSW 89.9 [Video]

In a recent renewal of Tantra’s Conditional Use Permit, the local planning and zoning commission issued a lower maximum noise level limit to 60 decibels– a change that could have significantly impacted Tantra’s live music events.

The limit was reversed after the owner of Tantra, Jeffrey Colasurd, reached out to the community for support and stressed that 60 decibels is equivalent to the sound of a normal conversation.

If the noise restriction was unopposed, it would have limited the establishment’s ability to operate at it’s usual volume, threatening its ability to provide a space for live music to thrive.

The proposed noise regulation sparked a strong response from the community. On Nov. 19, regular patrons and supporters of Tantra gathered at a city council meeting voicing their concerns.
