San Diego’s MLK parade unites community in celebration of justice and equality [Video]

San Diego’s 43rd annual MLK Day Parade took place Sunday morning downtown. CBS 8’s Keristen Holmes emceed the event.

SAN DIEGO — More than 100 floats and organizations came out to participate in the 43rd MLK Day Parade Sunday, along with hundreds of spectators who showed up to honor Dr. King’s legacy and to support San Diego. 

Spirit sailed down N. Harbor Dr. Sunday morning, one day before Martin Luther King Jr. Day. MLK Day is a federal holiday recognizing the work and life of the civil rights leader, who preached for a non-violence approach to achieve equal rights for all during the Civil Rights Movement.

“This is something that is a true tradition for many, not just Black Americans, but the entire San Diego community, and we believe we are stronger together,” Chapter President Kenya Taylor said.
