Dr. King’s legacy lives on as San Diegans unite at Balboa Park, celebrating his vision of peace through community gatherings and civil rights anthems.
At the WorldBeat Cultural Center and Alliance San Diego‘s 37th annual All People’s Celebration in Balboa Park Activity Center, drumlines and civil rights anthems echoed through the halls as diverse communities came together.
“Building beloved community together. That is what MLK told us,” said Pato Banton renowned reggae artist. “We can’t do this with just the Black race or the White race – we all have to come up together and recognize our diversity and equity for each other.”
For Miesha Rice, Alliance San Diego advancement director, Dr. King’s messages of nonviolence and brotherly love resonate deeply, especially in today’s climate.
“The words nonviolent, brotherly love – what that means especially today where so many people are under attack and human rights are being constantly violated,” Rice said.
