PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Hurricane Helene has devastated many families, homes and businesses throughout the south.
On September 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm, leaving a trail of destruction across Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
The Salvation Army launched a coordinated multi-state response before landfall and has continued to respond to the unique needs of each community impacted.
The Salvation Army has deployed multiple Incident Management Teams, 56 Disaster Response Units, and hundreds of disaster-trained personnel to the hardest hit areas of five states.
As rescue efforts are coming to an end and relief efforts are ramping up Major Brooks Gilliam in Eastern Tennessee.
“The salvation army is moving in and doing math feedings, providing emotional and spiritual care and trying to provide hope to communities that have been devastated,” said Major Gilliam.
