Russian Man Jailed After Daughter Drew Ukraine Picture Freed After 22 Months [Video]

A Russian man who was convicted and sentenced to jail for discrediting the military after his daughter made a drawing criticizing Russia’s war in Ukraine was released from prison after serving 22 months.

Alexei Moskalyov was freed after completing a reduced sentence of 22 months, according to OVD-Info, a group monitoring political detentions.

Moskalyov was convicted in March 2023 for posts he made on social media, which were flagged after his then 13-year-old daughter drew a picture opposing the war. His initial two-year sentence was reduced to a year and 10 months, but not before he briefly fled to Belarus. He was caught and extradited back to Russia shortly after.

According to the OVD-Info group, which reported his release, Moskalyov told the group that agents of the Federal Security Service had questioned inmates in his unit before his release, suggesting that they were searching for reasons to bring further charges …
