Rumford, Maine man charged with sexual assault in town of Mexico [Video]

MEXICO, Maine — A man from Rumford has been charged with gross sexual assault in connection with an incident in the town of Mexico.

Officials responded to a home in Mexico shortly after midnight Thursday, the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said Friday in a press release.

The victim, a 69-year-old woman, was taken to Rumford Hospital, where she was treated and released, the sheriff’s office said. In addition to the sexual assault, she suffered bruises and abrasions, according to the release.

Officials arrested Mark Sturtevant, 47, and took him to the Oxford County Jail, the sheriff’s office said.

“This is an isolated incident and the victim and the suspect met in a public setting prior to the assault,” the release stated.
