DENVER (KDVR) — The Rocky Mountain Regional Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Aurora announced it will resume full surgical operations on Monday after halting surgeries that required on-site steam sterilization on May 3.
The Rocky Mountain VA stated in a release that it had a four-week phased soft start to make sure the sterilized surgical equipment was safe for use. In total, 608 procedures were postponed or referred to community hospitals while the VA’s surgeries were on hold.
Lawmakers demand answers after VA hospital reports show leadership failures
The medical center said it is working with veterans to ensure all procedures are rescheduled.
“Our surgical staff are excited to be in the operating room providing excellent care to Veterans,” said Dr. Victor Quijano, chief of surgery, in a release. “Many Veterans trust their VA doctors so much that they chose to wait to receive their procedures with us. We are happy to be helping these patients.”
