Roanoke Valley hosting Load-the-Bus events to help give away school supplies [Video]

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – School will be here before you know it. However, as some families gear their children up with all the supplies they need for the first day, others aren’t as fortunate.

While the price of school supplies varies by grade level and by year, it does add up quickly. The concern is more common than you think.

“Every year, we have hundreds, if not thousands, of students across the Roanoke Valley that, for whatever reason, their families cannot afford school supplies,” said Chuck Lionberger, the director of community relations for Roanoke County Public Schools.

School boards across the Roanoke Valley are trying to do their part to fix this. They are teaming up with United Way and Walmart to hold these load-the-bus events across all local Walmarts.
