Roanoke-Blacksburg expecting more than 6,000 flyers over Labor Day weekend [Video]

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Labor Day weekend is expected to be another record-breaker according to TSA, and Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is preparing for a busy few days.

Alexa Briehl, public relations, marketing, and media manager for the airport, says they anticipate Thursday, Friday, and Monday to be the busiest days for travel.

It’s the final holiday weekend of a record-breaking summer for flying. Briehl says ROA saw a 15% jump in passengers this July versus last July, and a 10% jump in June. In response, airlines are investing more seats.

What to know about Labor Day and its history

“The airlines notice that, so this summer we’ve had increased capacity to Philadelphia on American, to Florida, St. Pete and Orlando, on Allegiant and then to Charlotte on American,” said Briehl.
