When Barkby Group plc announced a name change to Roadside Real Estate plc it heralded a major strategic shift from being a collection of interesting businesses ranging from pubs to biotechnology to what its new name is all about – real estate developments by the roadside.
That transformation is almost complete with the announcement that Roadside has disposed of its Barkby pub estate with its boutique gastropubs for the nominal sum of £1 and promises to pay £400,000 of remaining liabilities. While that disposal doesn’t look appetizing for shareholder value on paper, executive chairman Charles Dickson explains that it was an inherited legacy business which was ‘subscale’ and had not insignificant overheads to run the estate.
