Riders Traveling for RAGBRAI Faced Cancellations and Flight Delays Due to Global IT Outage [Video]

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – Effects from last week’s global IT outage are impacting the travel plans of RAGBRAI riders, KCCI’s Pepper Purpura reported. Hundreds of travelers tried to find their way to the Midwest for the start of the event on Sunday morning in Glenwood.

Airlines reported software malfunctions late on Thursday. The malfunctions caused flight delays. Workers quickly learned that the issue was due to a massive error also affecting postal services, news organizations, healthcare facilities and more.

CrowdStrike said that the issue was caused by a problem with an update on their product. CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity service software company.

The plans of those who hoped to reach Glenwood by Sunday morning and participate in RAGBRAI were disrupted.
