Ride to Remember to honor fallen Lee County Deputy on Sunday [Video]

Members of the local law enforcement community and others will gather on Sunday to remember a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy who was killed in the line of duty 15 years ago. 

The annual “Ride to Remember” memorial motorcycle ride from Smiths Station to Opelika will honor Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy James Anderson, who was killed while on duty in 2009.  Sheriff Jay Jones hopes the event will continue to keep Anderson’s memory alive.

“We want to make sure that people don’t forget deputy James Anderson,” Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said. “As time goes by memories fade. Well, this remembrance helps our memories to stay clear and focused on the fact that we lost one of our own.”

This year’s “Ride to Remember” will begin at 3 p.m. EST in the parking lot of Smiths Station Jr. High School and the ride will conclude at Garden Hill Cemetery in Opelika. The ride is followed by a brief ceremony …
